HP / Agilent 8562E Error Codes (ERR 100–922) – click to expand

HP / Agilent 8562E Error Codes

Every fault the HP 8562E (30 Hz to 13.2 GHz) detects shows up as an ERR number and short message at the lower right of the display. To see every stored error, press RECALL > MORE 1 OF 2 > RECALL ERRORS and scroll with the arrow keys. One fault often triggers several codes, so the lowest hardware code is the best place to start.

First step: save your state, press PRESET, CAL, REALIGN LO & IF and let it finish. If a code between 200 and 799 returns, the 8562E needs service.

8562E notes

  • The 8562E has a CRT display driven by a high-voltage module. A dim, blank or distorted screen usually has no ERR code at all.
  • FADC codes ERR 202–207 and ERR 760 only apply to an 8562E with Option 007 (fast digitized sweeps).
  • The 8562E input can be AC or DC coupled (AC is the power-on default). Keep DC under 0.2 V when DC coupled to protect the input mixer.
  • Above 2.9 GHz the 8562E uses a YIG preselector. Bad stored preselector peak data shows as ERR 704; use FACTORY PRSEL PK to restore it.
  • Using the 85629B test and adjustment module on the 8562E needs the 562E/TAM interface software.

400–599 IF errors – 8562E

These come from the automatic IF alignment. It aligns amplitude first, then the resolution bandwidths in this order: 300 kHz, 1 MHz, 2 MHz, 100 kHz, 30 kHz, 10 kHz, 3 kHz, 1 kHz, 300 Hz down to 1 Hz. Bandwidths aligned before the failure are usually still good; ones after it are suspect.
